Intro to Photorealism
June 21 and 22
Facilitated by Madeleine Wood from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. In this workshop participants honed both their observational and technical rendering skills, guided by Fanny Bay based artist Madeleine Wood. People learned to apply a deeper understanding of how to choose good photographs for the art making process through hands on preparation, demos and discussion. From the instructor’s own collection of photographs and tools, people composed and created their own coloured sketch using, using techniques and tips for successful photorealist painting. The workshop included an artist-led tour of Wood’s exhibition, “Come Back to Bed.” Cost: $130.
Manipulating Collage
September 27 and 28
Facilitated by John Schevers from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Students in this class learned to cut stencils and play with citrus concentrate to manipulate images from National Geographic magazines. Exciting abstract shapes appeared and formed the base for a beautiful and original collage. Cost: $160.
Moving Forward in Watercolour
November 5 – 26
(4 Wednesdays), 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Caren Heine returned by popular demand, with her engaging and inspiring teaching style and amazing expertise. Caren expanded on the intricacies of paint and colour mixing, techniques for handling various painting surfaces, drawing and laying washes as well as brushwork techniques. Cost: $120.
Mixed Media Scultpure
November 13 – December 4
(4 Thursdays) 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Campbell River artist extraordinaire, Martina Kowalchuk brought her energy and limitless creativity to the Art Gallery Studio for a 4 session class. This Multi-Media paper maché class moved far beyond the tradition of paper and paste to include found objects, fabric, wire, and more. Kowalchuk guided participants to expand their imagination, remove your limitations and hone their skills for this very hands-on mixed media sculpture experience. Cost: $78.
