Kristen Schofield-Sweet

Kristen Schofield-Sweet earned a Ph.D. in Art Education from the University of Oregon in 1977. In 1979 she immigrated to Canada to teach at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Later, she and her husband moved to Cortes Island where she paints between midnight stints on her oyster farm.

Kristen spent her childhood among forest streams and ocean dunes, where, she says, she gained an early awareness of feeling at home in nature. Of her art she says “It is a spirit-filled landscape that I want to convey. It is a sensation of slipping through surfaces’ appearances that I want the viewer to feel."
